Figure out when QoS is triggered

Is there a way to figure out if and when the traffic was actually shaped?

In my understanding, after reading the wiki, traffic is only shaped when the bandwidth is saturated (when using the standard categories very high to low). And reports do only show the classification to a related category, not?

Use the session viewer, sessions are categorized when they're setup. So you can see what priority each has in the session viewer on the fly.

Now, it is true that if things are quiet low priority stuff continues unimpeded. It won't take a back seat until congestion and higher priority stuff combine to need that connectivity.

I'm not sure what you're after. Sessions are categorize on setup, there is no "after".

Probably, I do not correctly understand how shaping is working in detail. Wiki refers to situations in which sessions (downloads) consume the full bandwidth. But what if not? My assumption:

• Several sessions are up classified to one of the 4 main categories. All sessions are consuming much less than the max. bandwidth. So up to this time, nothing has been shaped and all sessions run at full similar to have no QoS activated, right?
• Now, someone is performing a heavy download and the total bandwidth can be consumed. At this time, traffic will be slowed down accordingly.

Is there a possibility to specifically report on the latter?

Not with QoS, because that's a platform feature with no visibility. There are tools in the Bandwidth Control module reports that can visualize that process though.

Bandwidth Control configures QoS and enables it to do more than it can do by itself. We're in that forum, but you're saying QoS. So if you've got the Bandwidth Control module, and that's what you're playing with what you're left with is exploring the reports for the module to find the data you're after.
