  • Limit app Bandwidth

    Hi there

i have searched in the web and in the forums but i didnt find an answer.

It is possible to limit the maximum bandwidth of an app?

I mean the raw Kbps, not the % of the maximum bandwidth.

I have a very good internet, with 1Gbps, and even if i give the app 0.1% of the bandwidth its still a lot.

I'm a home user and i wish to use some psicology to discurage the use of certains apps without blocking them. For instance TikTok and Instagram. But the way TikTok and Instragram are optimized, even 0.1% of the total bandwidth its more than enought to work flawlessly. I want to some time make a rule to slow so much the speed of this apps that the user feels discuraged to use it. (wait 5 seconds to an TikTok feed to load its not fun for the kids). So i wish to limit the bandwidth of the app to 10kbps or even 1kpbs at times.

Can you help me how to acomplish that? Its even possible?

    Thanks

    It's not possible with NGFW.

Witch its the minimum percentage that i can achieve with bandwidth control?

Its there a way that i change the maximum badwidth of the QoS for something like 100Mbps but chose witch devices will be afected by it so the other devices ignores the QoS maximum and can use the full 1Gbps?

I can think of two choices you might have.

        1. Use Application Control to Tarpit the apps, then ‘Tag’ the devices you want to limit access to.
        2. Create a VLAN, place the devices there, and use an Access Point like UniFi that allows you to set bandwidth limits (this will impact
total Internet access regardless of app).
