  • QLogic 57810 Dual Port 10Gb and Issues

Running this base machine, with upgraded ram and a Samsung Evo SSD: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en...UT090/overview

Using a QLogic 57810 Dual Port 10Gb, 1 port for wan for my 5Gbit fiber connection (I don't get the full 5 Gbit either. I get like 2 down and 3 up... havent figure that out either...), but when I try and use the other port it either outright doesnt work or it will actually crash the entire card and I need to reboot to get my WAN connection back.
First steps in troubleshooting this? I have it in a 16x pci-e 3.0 slot.

I have a Intel i350 Quad Port 1GbE BASE -T, rNDC in a 4x slot in the same machine and have had no issues with it at all even when all 4 ports are used.

Any initial troubleshooting thoughts, things I should know, or thoughts on the hardware?

    Cheers

Sounds like an issue with either that specific card or the drivers. Debian may not include 100% good drivers for it.

    Please don't reboot your NGFW.
How can we make Arista ETM products better?

Cheers, ill swap it and see what happens. See any issues with my pc hardware to support the speeds I am looking for out of my 5g ISP connection?

You've already answered your own question. NGFW doesn't provide drivers, nor does it support installation of 3rd party drivers. All this comes from NGFW's upstream OS, Debian.

What you're experience is a lack of proper support for the QLogic card you're attempting to use. Now you can step out on a support limb and compile your own drivers, or you can toss it in favor of an Intel based card that should just work out of the box... just like your i350 does.

Graven you were dead on! I swapped that card out wit an identical one and jumped from around 2Gbe to 3.7GBe download and up to 4.7Gbe upload. Cheers for that. I realize it's not the entire 5g for download, but this will do fo the moment!.

Happy to hear it was helpful! Any time an issue can be tl;dr'd as 'this works fine with hardware A but not with hardware B', I start by looking askance at hardware B.

For sure. Didnt fix the other port issue, but the speed is of more value right now so I am happy. Migrating the firewall overt o a dell r630 soon anyhow. I have cards to make that easier to deal with., Cheers!

Not to mention the option of putting VMWare on it, having direct support for that platform via Dell's download pages, and being able to stuff NGFW in as a VM for a fully supported solution that'll never give you fits. More complex to setup though... but worth it.
