  • Upgraded to 16.6.2 and i got a 50 licence limit suddenly

    Hi to all
Is there something i need to do? i mean i am a long way home pro user but now i got a problem suddenly.
I wasn't able to upgrade to 16.6.2 version directly, the procedure seemed fine but in the end it did a reboot and rolled back to 16.5.
Either way i did a config backup, i did a clean VM install with 16.6.2, restored my config and in control panel i changed the licence to the new installation and all working correctly.

Now i see in the log in untangle "License limit exceeded. Session not entitled" for many of my devices... i know i can bypass many of them for sure at least my IoT ones (i have 45+ Shelly Devices and many more from other brands in my Smart home) but this wasnt the case in 16.5. I have a backup of 16.5 but i dont want to do that if there is a solution.

    Can someone help from Untangle?

    Kind regards
    chris

I used to see this notification on the appliance itself but after I've talked to support about it (Home Pro is supposed to be 'unlimited'), they did something and the notif stopped showing up on my Dashboard.

HOWEVER, it still says "License seat count exceeded... " in Command Center. And if I go to Config>About>Licenses, all the relevant apps are showing "50" seats. So someone or something is lying to me.

Which begs the question; Did they really removed the 50-seat limit, or did they just "silenced" my appliance from complaining?

For that matter (and not meaning to hijack this thread), in what other ways can I determine, conclusively, if all of my hosts are protected or not, regardless of what the notif or my license count are saying?

Don't restore your backup or reinstall a previous version. It won't help. Just email [email protected] with the UID and a description of the issue and they can sort you out.

No. Neither the company nor the products have been called 'Untangle' in over a year. 😉

Support told you it's resolved, and I promise you can trust them.

The reason you don't see the admin alert notification any longer is the issue has been fixed. The change that was made happens behind the scenes/under the hood/however you want to think of it, and it does not have a visible impact on the license count you'll see in the Licenses tab.

How can we make Arista ETM products better?

But again, what can I do to make my own determination that I'm not hitting the limit? That's all I'm asking.

I'm not trying to be difficult but you have to look at it from my perspective. I'm literally getting mixed signals; UT appliance isn't complaining but the licenses does state "50 seats". And then support says that it's been fixed at the backend and told me to just ignore the Licenses tab... sure, ok. But then, I go to Command Center and it says "License seat count exceeded... ". Depending on where I look, it's telling me two totally opposite things. At some point, I have to ask; "So, which is it?"

If you look at the dashboard, currently active is what the license is compared to. Maximum active is the highest amount of active clients. Even if you reach the license limit, traffic is not blocked, the few over the license is bypassed the layer 7 filtering (apps) and filter by layer 3 (Filter Rules under Config -> Networking).

Let me know if you need further information.

Also hitting the limit generates an admin alert, so you can check reports or your email for those.

                    Thank you.

So with what you're saying, is it correct to say that the 51st and beyond clients are bypassed (ie. no filtering from Web filter, Bandwidth Manager, etc.)?

If yes, then I am definitely still hitting the limit, am I not? So all support did was suppress the "license exceeded" alerts on my appliance.

Not when they deliberately mute the alerts. At least, that's what I think is happening.

Not for that sub, this issue crops up with every release and time to time between as the license manager evolves. This situation has happened before the Arista buyout. You fixed it by reporting it to support so they can disable enforcement. Yes, your license manager reports 50 seats, that's not new for that sub! The subs that aren't device limited are becoming more rare by the day, but everyone that has one is treated this way. If you have one of those special subs be prepared to contact support if you ever do get the alert in question, because it shouldn't be alerting, and support has to fix that.

The only way to get out of this situation is to swap the subscription for one that's more normal. Like one of the current home subs.

Support connected and fixed the limit problem for me also, i dont get anymore the licence limit, thx Græme for this, but now i got a new problem.
I get suddenly huge amount of messages of high swap usage but this is not the case in my eyes.
The VM has 6GB of RAM as it had till 16.5.2 where this problem didnt exist.. I can raise the memory of course but why?

that's a bit pedantic, especially considering even the latest 16.6.2 release still identifies itself as "Untangle" in the upper left corner. (yes, I do see the smiley face, but the product literally still calls itself that)
