  • Untangle, VPN, and My Network Places

    Hi all,

I really thank you for this great product. But I am a question, how can I be able to see other machines in My Network Places with Windows XP which are at a different site connected though VPN??

I could be able to Remote Desktop or access the Web Server with different site though VPN, but I can't see other computers... can it be done??

    Thanks,

    Alan,

pc0416, welcome to Untangle. When you VPN, you can access things as if you were at that location. After the VPN connection, you can open a browser and type //ipaddress or you can use the windows RDP, or whatever you like.
(please remember you can only access the places you allow on the exported hosts/networks)

Access a network resource. For example, in Windows XP:
    Launch a Windows Explore window.
Type \\IPAddressofComputer or \\ComputerHostname, and press Enter.

        Alan,
Maybe it's a case of something you DID turn on. Did you install the full open source pack? I installed my primary apps in the untangle rack one at a time checking for loss of normal service as each one was implemented. Could be the protocol control that has blocked something.

Try switching off protocol control if you have it installed then accessing your resources and troubleshoot from there.
