  • Netflix an NordVPN

Hai all, i've just activated a NordVPN tunnel.
I use it just for safety, the use a server in the same nation where I live.
I have a problem with netflix and smartphone.
If use neflix on my smartphone same videos don't compare in the list (neither with the search). Even the childer icon account is changed.
If use netflix on my TV, it works normally.
Can someone tell me which is the possibile cause?

It sounds like your NordVPN tunnel's remote endpoint is in another country, which is not uncommon: that's how these services work. You're likely seeing the Netflix content offerings available in the country where the endpoint server is, rather than your own. You might have an option to specify an exit-node country in your NordVPN settings.

Are you connecting to Netflix via OpenVPN through your Untangle? (What we worked on in the other thread.) You will most likely need to add the DNS Port Forward entry to Nord's DNS server.

Is this while connected at home? Away from home over OpenVPN? Does it work properly with the NordVPN tunnel disconnected? Disconnect from OpenVPN, Test, Disconnect NordVPN, test. Try a different Nord server. I need more information.

Yes, it happens when I'm on my wifi. Please not consider that i use OpenVPN when I'm away from home.
I've tried to change Nord server (alway in my country) and the result is the same.
Alla my traffic pass throught the vpn.
Edit: I've tryed download Nordvpn app on my smaphone and connect to vpn direclty... the problem doesn't appear...so the problem is with untangle!!

NG Firewall doesn't have the ability to change your traffic in such a way that it would cause the issue you're seeing. The only thing that's different when compared to non-tunnel routing is where the traffic goes. I.e., when using your regular internet connection, it's through your ISP's normal nodes; when using the tunnel, it's routing towards NordVPN's servers. That's all the NG Firewall is doing: routing traffic to a different endpoint.

                      Hi peg1987,

There is no way currently to move just one type/signature of traffic over the vpn.
You can tag host ex if host start to use netflix give it the tag of "netflix" and then you can have rules that don't allow clients with tag "netflix" to go over any of the tunnels.

But then all traffic from that host will skip the vpn tunnel and not just the netflix traffic.

Hi hope this thing will be implemented soon.
For me the firewall mangament is "setup and forget". I' can't change the roule every time a host wan't to use netflix, It could appen twice everyday.
the thing that i don't undestand is why my TV has not this problem, while a smarphone in the same network, yes.
And why if i use NordVPN direcltly on my smarphone (with nordvpn app) the problem doesn't compare?

Update: I'm speaking with nordvpn assistant. It seams a dns problem. I've created the port forwarding rule that @MP715 suggested to me, but it's enough. Maybe I've to forward the secondary dns server too, but I don't know how!

Has there been any progress on a solution that allows one to run a Tunnel VPN (to a server in one's own country) and still be able to stream Netflix, Disney+, Prime etc?

Not a NordVPN user but I suspect it the same as the system I use. You will likely need to change your primary and secondary dns to theirs on the device you are trying to use Netflix on. Use a site like ipleak dot net to check you are connected to their server and using their dns. Hope this helps
